Common Print Sizes

Bleed, Borders and Crop Marks

Bleed is required on jobs when any part of an image, block of colour or text extend right to the edge of the page. To create a bleed, extend the image/colour/text 3mm beyond the edge of the page.

A 'quiet border' is usually an area of about 5mm from each edge of a page where you should avoid putting any text or logos. This will avoid any part of your design appearing too close to the edge of the page and will give your job a more professional appearance.

Bleed and Borders

Crop (or cutting or tick) marks are small perpendicular lines that appear at the edge of your page design and are particularly useful when your design incorporates bleed. These marks show the printer where to cut the paper to its final size after printing and will not appear on your printed job.

Colours

For full-colour printing we use the CMYK palette. This differs from the RGB palette normally found in website graphics or photographic images. Please convert any images / graphics / text to CMYK before sending files to us or you may experience a colour 'shift' when you receive your printed job.

File Formats

We are able to accept your artwork in a variety of formats including:

• Adobe Acrobat (PDF) - use PDF/X-1a:2001
• Illustrator (EPS) - ensure all fonts are converted to outlines / curves
• CorelDraw (CDR) - ensure all fonts are converted to outlines / curves

Images

Please try to ensure that all images in your design are 300dpi (dots per inch) for optimum quality and ideally converted to CMYK, to avoid colour shifts in your final print. Please bear in mind that any images you may source from websites may be 72dpi and in RGB format.

Fonts

For best results, convert any fonts within your document to curves (also known as outlines) - this converts any text into vectored shapes. If you are unable to do this, please ensure that you send all the fonts contained in your document. If you do not do this, font substitution may occur which means your final print may not look as expected.
